The challenges of Covid-19 for Certified Accountants

All the changes imposed by the Coronavirus pandemic, both on a professional and personal level, are demanding in terms of the speed of response, in our day-to-day life, in relations, in the economy and in maintaining the economic and social panorama that keeps us going.
We have gathered a summary of the main challenges faced by accounting firms and their clients.

During this period, which requires change and speed of response, we pointed out five challenges of the Certified Accountant and five tips to be able to readjust in the best way.

- The decentralization of the office, moving to the home of each employee, appears as a priority. Teleworking is a possible working regime, which for many of us is new and quite challenging.

Accounting companies perform an essential activity for their clients and for reporting to the State, banking, insurance and other entities, being of equal relevance in this situation. As such, it is possible to keep them in operation, with the imperative of ensuring the social distance and security of each employee.

- Access to basic documentation for accounting is the second and no less important and challenging priority. The physical document can be transported to the employee's home, but there is concern about the risk of carrying the virus. Another alternative lies in mechanisms and working methods that allow access to the information needed for accounting, without having the document in hand, through the digital.

- More than ever, maintaining contact with the client, guiding and supporting at this time is another challenge to invest with great creativity and dynamics. It is suggested to provide a contact at a distance, but that reinforces proximity and, as such, nothing better than regular meetings by teleconference and, preferably with video call. There are several alternatives available on the market. Some are more professional and some are typically for domestic use, but they can be an excellent alternative, such as social networks. The important thing is to assume a means of functional contact, which allows the regular activity of the company to be carried out and strengthen the relationship with the client.

- Considering that people make companies, we could not fail to stress the importance of staying alive and, why not, catalyzing team spirit, even in a scenario of social distancing. With all the concerns, changes and distance, creating alternatives of proximity, monitoring and team unity is a task that can be decisive to maintain a regular operation and build for the near future.
