IUC - A tax you shouldnt forget!
In addition to various expenses associated with the detention of a vehicle, car owners must also pay the Circulation Single Tax (IUC). In force since July 1, 2007, the IUC code defines that the payment of this tax is due to all owners of vehicles of categories A to G, covering all types of motor vehicles, motorcycles, mopeds, tricycles and quadricycles, and pleasure boats and aircraft for private use. The IUC is also imputed to financial acquirers renters with reservation of title and the holders of option rights for lease (Leasing, ALD or Renting). Periodicity of payment The IUC is paid on the date of enrolment and annually by the end of the month of registration. The payment of this tax is due until the vehicle is shot down, regardless of whether it is or it isn’t in circulation. In this situation, the owner will have to make the cancellation of the registration by the competent authority (according to the type of vehicle). Exemptions Taxable persons suffering from a disability with a total disability grade of 60% or more may request exemption from the payment of this tax. However, this exemption is only attributed to motor vehicles of categories A, B and E. To whom is due the IUC in case of sale of the vehicle? In case of sale, the IUC only shall be carried over to the new owner when he proceeds to the amendment of the vehicle registration. It is therefore recommended that this process be carried out in the moment of the transaction, to ensure that the former owner doesn't get damaged.
